I’m a planner. My roommate thinks I’m crazy, although by my dad’s standards, I’m barely prepared. But I don’t go to a place without first buying a map, booking a hostel, and reading the wikitravel article. I just can’t handle the stress of the complete unknown. Last summer it took a while for us to get our class schedule, and I was traveling a lot, so by the time I was able to plan my five weeks in Oxford, I ended up very frustrated that I hadn’t planned further in advance. So near the end of last summer’s trip, I began planning for the spring. Remember the front-row seats to the play with Patrick Stewart? They were front row seats because I booked them last September. I booked my flight to Venice for Carnival soon after that. The point is, I plan a lot. But I also have back-up plans, and when I booked my ticket to see the Patrick Stewart play, I also booked a second ticket for two weekends after, just in case. Because of this, I hadn’t booked anything else for this weekend. The play was awesome the first time, but I didn’t really want to see it again, so on Monday I offered to sell the ticket to one of my friends and started looking for new weekend plans. On Thursday I used my airline miles to book a $40 roundtrip ticket to …
I was going to tell you, but I’ve decided to let you guess. Take a look at these photos and guess in which city I spent my weekend. After someone guesses correctly, I’ll put up the rest of the photos.
I’ll give you a small hint. I wasn’t ready for a complete disaster, so I picked a country where they speak a language I'm comfortable with. I’m far from fluent, but I can read a few words, so I feel less panicked. (I’ve studied Latin, French, Spanish, Italian, and German, but I can also understand some words in Dutch, Portuguese, and Catalan)
