Now I’m at Alpine Resort! I’ve been coming here every summer for 16 years, and I absolutely love it here. It just feels so peaceful, and it brings back so many childhood memories. I’ll try to tell you more about the camp as the week goes on, but for now, I just want to put up my pictures from the last two days.
Saturday we stopped in Cobourg for groceries and our annual trip to Dollarama. We did manage to do some fishing once we got here. It’s a little bit cooler this year. We usually go the last week in July, but the family agreed to move the trip since I’ll be in Oxford all July. Even with the low temperatures, I’m planning on getting in the pool, and I’m pretty sure Quinn will too.
Since I’ve come here so many times, I know what to expect, but this year there was a surprise for Quinn. There’s a big pile of sand on the water right in front of our cabin. There’s usually a small sandy area there, and Mike or Fred must have decided to replenish the sand. Quinn absolutely loves playing on top of the sand pile. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be the highlight of his trip.

We also had another surprise. About seven years ago we were in town for the annual Alderville First Nation Pow-wow. Then they moved it to a different weekend, and we hadn’t attended since before Quinn was born. As we were driving into Roseneath yesterday, we saw the sign on the Community Centre flashing the dates of this year’s Pow-wow, and it’s this weekend. I don’t understand all the cultural aspects of a Pow-wow, but it’s so interesting to just watch and listen. The traditional costumes are phenomenal! I can’t imagine trying to dance in them, though. I can’t even dance in jeans.

In between Pow-wows and playing on the sand pile, we’ve been fishing. Dad caught a bass and a walleye. Patty caught a catfish, and Patty and Rachel both caught tiny perch at the same time. Quinn caused trouble, and I took pictures of everyone, which is why I didn’t catch any fish. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, I am a master fisherwoman when I actually bother to put a hook in the water. The problem is, most of the time I just enjoy sitting peacefully in the boat with a captive audience to talk to.
