There's something people don't say very often. British food has a pretty bad reputation, which it mostly deserves, but to put it in context, I don't actually like most French food, which has an amazing reputation. French food has an emphasis on natural cooking, which means that what you're eating often resembles what it looked like back when it was walking/swimming. I prefer to pretend I'm a vegetarian, while still enjoying chicken noodle soup, stir fry, lasagna, and occasional all-beef hot dogs.
Anyway, here's what I'm craving today: Wagamama, Hummous Bros, and Crepe Affaire. They're all chains, but they're all pretty good and not too pricey.
Wagamama is a Japanese-ish chain restaurant. I can't speak to its authenticity, but the food is great! My favorite, (and the only thing I've actually eaten there) is
yasai katsu curry v £8.20 : sweet potato, aubergine and butternut squash deep-fried in panko breadcrumbs, served with a curry sauce and sticky white rice. garnished with dressed mixed leaves and red pickles
Read the menu here if you want to be jealous of all the great food I'll be eating when I go back to Oxford.
Hummous Bros is a tiny place on Wardour street (near the London Theatre district) which only serves hummous and variations of it. This place intrigues me, not because I really love hummous, but because it's such a simple idea and I wish someone would open one in Columbus.
My absolute favorite restaurant in London is Crepe Affaire! They have awesome crepes, probably the best I've ever had outside of Paris. Read the menu and buy a ticket to London or Paris.
